Greenation works to facilitate and establish meaningful and sustainable development in Africa via well-digging, vocational training and agricultural training.
The most vulnerable parts of Africa depend primarily on agricultural production.
Almost eighty-five percent of Central and Southern Africans live in rural areas. This provides a great opportunity to invest in agricultural development in the region.
The use of irrigation systems in farming can alleviate the impacts of climate stress associated with extreme heat and drought. Without this method, farmers would not be able to produce enough food.
For these smallholder farmers, irrigation can facilitate significant shifts in household agricultural production and income generation.
As a non-profit development organization, we believe that increasing investments in agricultural irrigation is will aid these African communities on their journey to self sufficiency in the region.
Irrigation has the potential to increase Africa’s agricultural productivity by up to approximately 45%. Irrigated agriculture also means smallholder farmers can extend the growing season by planting crops at a different time than when they normally plant. Which will enhance productivity and incomes, and ameliorate their livelihoods.
Furthermore, irrigation has great potential to raise incomes, reduce hunger and improve development prospects in the region.
Our duty is to boost irrigation to a top priority to bring it to scale as a key ingredient to guarantee the continent’s food security in the face of more extreme weather conditions.
Almost 590 million people in Central and Southern Africa live without access to electricity. When the sun goes down, streets grow dark, businesses close, and homes are lit with dangerous, and expensive kerosene lamps that are responsible for high rates of respiratory illness, childhood burns, poisonings, and house fires. Greenation wants to change that.
We provide solar lighting to families in rural areas living in extreme poverty. Our clean energy programming addresses the needs of children, new mothers, orphans, students, adults with disabilities, and elders.
Each light we offer illuminates households for years, making families’ funds go further toward everyday needs.
Solar lights enable African rural communities to power their lives. Switching to solar means safety, more opportunities for children to learn and thrive, improved health, and protection of the environment for generations to come.
At Greenation, we are committed to our mission to combat energy poverty and transform the lives of vulnerable African communities through solar energy. Together we can change lives while providing basic electrical needs to rural families in need.
We invite you to become a part of our efforts to help rural Africa shine!
Water scarcity is one of the greatest causes of poverty in Africa and a major barrier to healthcare, nutrition, and agriculture sector. In Central and Southern Africa, 400 million people lack access to clean, safe water, and more than 730 million do not have access to basic sanitation services.
Children across the continent miss millions of school days due to water-related diseases. For example, diarrheal disease is the third-leading cause of illness, and death among African children under the age of five.
Every day in rural communities, families must spend many hours each day simply finding and transporting water. The common container used for water collection in Africa weighs over 45 pounds when it’s completely full.
Imagine carrying the equivalent of a 5-year-old child for two or three hours out each day. Some women carry even more weight, up to 75 pounds in a barrel carried on the back, it’s like carrying a baby hippo.
We’re convinced together we can make a difference, one village at a time.
Wells in Africa can provide a safe and convenient source of water for many of its inhabitants. Greenation digs wells in rural villages to provide safe, clean water to those who need it most.
We believe that water wells provide a great solution for rural areas, as a single well can function as a clean water source for an entire village and last for over 30 years. Wells also creates positive economic responses.
It is estimated that every dollar invested in clean water and sanitation yields a 9-dollar return. This is due to the economic stimulus that a well can bring about.
Water wells allow children to attend school instead of spending half the morning collecting dirty water.
Getting an education is not only a fundamental human right. It is crucial to increasing employment and income opportunities, and the key to breaking the cycle of poverty in Central and Southern Africa.
According to UNESCO, 97 million children and youth between the ages of 6 and 17 in Central and Southern Africa are out of school. If no action is taken the situation will just worsen, as the region faces an increasing demand for education due to a still-growing number of children entering the school system.
Therefore, one of the goals of Greenation is to create opportunities for African children and youths to acquire the knowledge, skills, and experience for personal development.
Providing quality education to children in rural Africa reflects the fact that every child is given fundamental human rights and should be treated with dignity.
By going to school, children have a chance to develop social awareness and learn the skills that are needed for the workplace. This means they are more likely to get a job in the future, earn an income, and support their families.
We believe that education is a sustainable means to end poverty and bring lasting change. It is their best weapon against disease, violence, poverty, early marriage, and prostitution. Educated children are more likely to have opportunities for a constructive and positive life path.
Education is a basic human right. Our programs are designed to reduce poverty by promoting the development of educated and resilient youth.
Greenation strategically empower families in Central and Southern Africa by providing education, water, and energy strengthening the communities we serve.
We create sustainable solutions for hunger in Central and Southern Africa by investing in agricultural irrigation to enhance productivity and income.
